Privacy Policy · Effective Date: May 22, 2026
Ad Orientem ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the Ad Orientem app ("App"). In short: the App requires no account, and the only information that ever leaves your device is what you choose to share through the optional Intercede feature, described below.
Information We Do Not Collect
The App requires no account or sign-in. We do not collect, store, or share:
- Your name, email address, or contact information
- Location data
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Usage analytics, behavioral tracking, or advertising data
We do not link any information to your real-world identity.
Subscription and Payments
Ad Orientem offers an auto-renewable subscription processed entirely through Apple's App Store. We do not have access to your payment information. All billing, receipts, and subscription management are handled by Apple.
We use RevenueCat to manage subscription entitlements. RevenueCat may process anonymized purchase receipts to verify your subscription status. RevenueCat does not link this data to your personal identity. For more information, see the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
App Content and Local Storage
All liturgical content — prayers, scripture readings, saints' commemorations, and calendar data — is stored locally within the App and loaded on your device. No content you read or interact with is transmitted to any server.
Your language preference (English or Spanish), notification interval for the Jesus Prayer, and your private list of prayer commitments are stored locally on your device and are not shared with anyone.
Intercede (Shared Prayer Intentions)
The Intercede feature lets you share short prayer intentions with the wider Ad Orientem community and pray for the intentions others have submitted. Because this is a shared community feature, some information necessarily leaves your device. Here is exactly what:
- What is sent: the text of any intention you choose to post, the time it was posted, a running count of how many users are praying for it, and a randomly-generated anonymous identifier that ties the post to the device that submitted it.
- What is NOT sent: your name, email, phone, location, contacts, or device identifier. The anonymous identifier is generated by Firebase Anonymous Authentication; it is not linked to any account or contact information and is not used to identify you. As with any internet request, the infrastructure providers listed below necessarily receive your device's IP address in order to deliver the request; we do not store it or use it to identify you, and its handling is governed by those providers' own privacy policies.
- How it is stored: shared intentions and the anonymous prayer-count are stored in Google Firebase (Firestore + Firebase Authentication). Access is governed by Firebase security rules and Google's infrastructure protections. See the Firebase Privacy Policy and Google Privacy Policy.
- Translation: when you post in English or Spanish, the text is sent to a public translation endpoint (Google Translate, with a MyMemory fallback) so other users can read it in their chosen language. The translation request contains only the intention text — no identifier of any kind is attached.
- Your control: you may delete any intention you posted from within the app at any time. Deletion immediately hides the intention so that it no longer appears to you or to anyone else in the community. You may also report or block other users' posts; reported posts are reviewed by a moderator and may be hidden or removed.
- Public visibility: any intention you post is visible to every other user of the App. Do not include personal information, names of others without their consent, contact details, or anything you would not want a stranger to read.
Notifications
The App schedules local notifications (e.g. the optional Jesus Prayer reminder) entirely on your device using the operating system's local-notification facility. Notification text is not sent to or routed through any server. You may disable notifications at any time from your device Settings or by selecting "Never" inside the App.
User-Generated Content Policy
By posting an intention you agree not to submit content that is obscene, hateful, harassing, defamatory, sexually explicit, threatening, infringing, illegal, or that targets another person without their consent. We enforce a zero-tolerance policy for objectionable content and abusive users. Mechanisms inside the App include automated profanity filtering, user reporting, user blocking, and moderator removal. Objectionable content and the users who post it will be removed within 24 hours of a report, when warranted.
Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services:
- RevenueCat — subscription status verification. Privacy Policy
- Google Firebase (Authentication & Firestore) — anonymous identifier and storage for the Intercede shared-prayer feature only. Privacy Policy
- Google Translate / MyMemory — translation of intention text submitted to the Intercede feature only. Google · MyMemory
We do not use any advertising networks, analytics services, or behavioral tracking tools of any kind.
Children's Privacy
Ad Orientem does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. The Intercede community feature is intended for adult users; minors should use it only with parental supervision.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
